National Trails Day is June 7, and Arc of Appalachia will host a free educational program at the Appalachian Forest Museum at the Highland Nature Sanctuary in Bainbridge, where visitors will learn about an Ohio endangered species – the timber rattlesnake.
Ohio naturalist and rattlesnake researcher, John Howard, will deliver the presentation,. After that, there will be an optional guided hike at the new Rock Oak Trail and Sugarbush Hill Trail at the Tobacco Barn Hollow Preserve.
National Trails Day is sponsored annually by the American Hiking Society on the first Saturday of June and features public events aimed at advocacy and trail service.
The Arc of Appalachia is hosting the event in conjunction with the Buckeye Trail and the American Hiking Society.
Registration is required, and it is free.
