Arc of Appalachia’s Nature is Neat! program at the Highlands Nature Sanctuary in Bainbridge will be offered monthly from May through October.
The program offers hands-on activities, themed learning days, and guided exploration for the whole family.
The Appalachian Forest Museum is located at 7660 Cave Road in Bainbridge.
The Highlands Nature Sanctuary is the oldest and largest preserve within the Arc of Appalachia Preserve System. Rocky Fork Gorge is the heart of the preserve with a 100-foot high steep-walled dolomite canyon and breathtaking rock formations, ancient white cedars, grottoes, springs, and stone arches.
The first Nature is Neat program of the year is Saturday, May 10 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The title is Misunderstood Friends of the Forest
Do snakes, opossums, or bats give you the creeps? These often misunderstood animals play a crucial role in nature! Our friends from Nature Nurses will be bringing animal ambassadors like Petey the Possum and Elvira the Bat to help us learn why these creatures deserve our appreciation.
Activities Include:
Meet live animal ambassadors
Learn why these species are essential for a healthy ecosystem
Take a self-guided hike on our scenic trails
Get crafty—make a mama opossum with her babies to take home!
No registration is required—just come ready to explore!
Stay tuned for more themed events throughout the season. See you in the forest!
