When we started Strangers Helping Strangers back in October, we were just that – a group of people who lived in southern Ohio and didn’t know each other, and a group of people who were gathering and delivering supplies to people impacted by Hurricane Helene in western North Carolina.
We decided to join together and form an incorporated nonprofit with the focus on continuing to help in western N.C., and also preparing for disasters here in southern Ohio.
Our mission also includes performing community projects to help people in need. After all, we all have experienced tough times, and we believe it’s our calling to make a positive impact in the community.
Thank you to everyone who participated in and donated to our Christmas toy drive, and welcome to all of you who are new to this page and are just learning about Strangers Helping Strangers!
In 2025, we will build shelters for residents displaced by Helene in NC and eastern Tennessee. We welcome continued donations of funds and/or new supplies so we can have the materials to build an initial run of 12 to 15.
In the new year, we are also gathering supplies and building shelters to have on hand right here in Highland County so we can quickly respond to disasters. We welcome donations of supplies (like canned food and hygiene products) and/or the funds to buy them along with funds for building materials.
Also, we plan to have more community events where we help people in need, and we are interested in building relationships with churches, organizations, and businesses that want to work with is for anything detailed above.
Please visit our page to stay up to date. We will have a kickoff event in February in Hillsboro. For that, we welcome donations for gift baskets and gift cards from businesses across Highland County and surrounding counties. And we hope to see you there!
