Strangers Helping Strangers is nonprofit organization made up of folks from Highland County and surrounding areas. We provide disaster response services and perform community projects. We are an incorporated nonprofit, and we are partnered with a local 501c3, too.
We were a group of people who didn’t know each other when we teamed together to provide disaster response and community projects in the western North Carolina region devastated by Hurricane Helene.
We were sending and hauling goods to western North Carolina and eastern Tennessee individually, and it just made better sense to put our talents together to make a difference in more people’s lives.
What we have found from our many trips there is that it’s independent organizations big and small, brand new and well-established, that are leading the immediate and long-term relief and recovery there.
Strangers Helping Strangers has contributed and delivered supplies, provided donated campers and sheds, had cookouts for residents and volunteers, and promoted organizations and events that benefit communities and residents who were impacted by Helene in western North Carolina.
It is our goal to keep responding and keep growing, helping western North Carolina, and responding to disasters and performing community projects locally and regionally in southern Ohio and surrounding areas.
We are currently focused on building temporary shelters and sending them to the disaster zones of Appalachia.
In addition, we are raising funds to build tiny homes and have supplies on hand to respond to disasters in Highland County and southern Ohio.
You can help in one or more ways.
1. Donate funds to help with the objectives listed above.
2. Join our group as a volunteer.
3. If you know of or work for a company that would be willing to donate materials or funds, please let us know.
We welcome people who want to join us and be a part of our organization, and businesses and organizations who want to contribute.
We have also teamed with trustworthy organizations down in western North Carolina to help facilitate response.
We are organizing a kickoff fundraising event that will be held in Hillsboro in January. More on that will be posted on our Facebook page in the upcoming weeks.
Thanks for taking the time to read this. We hope you will join us in making Strangers Helping Strangers an organization that helps communities and people in need!
